Parisian professionals offer the chance to meet artisans and visit their workshops. Meeting the French, guides
take small groups of up to 10 people (on prior individual or group registration) on a scheduled date, on a journey
to discover the work and know-how of Parisian artisans. The public can discover artisans such as Aurélie Cherell,
fashion designer and wedding dress specialist in her workshop at the Viaduc des Arts. The designer presents
her work, from the first sketches to the finished creation. You can also discover the secrets behind the delicacies
at the Grand Richelieu bakery-cake shop to find out everything about baguette or Viennese pastry recipes. Interior
designers, chocolatiers, bookbinders, visits are planned daily. Another company, Promenade des sens, arranges
visits to unusual boutiques in Paris, to young designers or relating to the art of living and know-how. Expert
and enthusiastic guides take participants on a discovery tour of the most iconic districts (Montmartre, the
Marais, etc.).
With Détour des Sens, groups meet the capital’s perfume makers during an olfactory journey. For two and a half
hours in a group, four hours on request in a group or individually, this perfume trip enables you to discover the
most emblematic Parisian know-how: anecdotes about perfume and perfumers, evolution and history illustrate
the walk, along with olfactory discoveries at perfume makers.
During themed exhibitions and open days, the public can also visit the Écoles de métiers d’art which train
tomorrow’s artisans in the best techniques. Estienne, Olivier de Serres or Arts Déco nurture young talent that
has given French artisans their reputation worldwide.
There is no shortage of places in Paris for meeting artisans in person. Among the many workshops that of milliner
Laurence Bossion is like a showcase in the heart of Paris. There are classic and zany creations to discover and
it is even possible to order a unique handcrafted work.
Finally, in another domain, each year, the prize for the meilleure baguette de Paris (best baguette in Paris) is
awarded to a baker for his perfect baguette. The lucky winner, Djibril Bodian in 2010, gets to be the supplier to
the President of the French Republic for a year. You can try his creations in his bakery, Le Grenier à pain on rue
des Abbesses at Montmartre.
