On Friday, August 6th, the most beautiful boutique hotel in the Adriatic Monte Mulini will host a concert by the most popular songwriter of Bosnia and Herzegovina Kemal Monteno
who will sing to the piano accompaniment of the renowned Croatian jazz pianist Matija Dedic. The exclusive concert will start at 21 o''clock on the lovely outdoor pool stage of the Monte Mulini hotel.
Kemal Monteno is the greatest chanson author of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the best of the former Yugoslavia. Monteno''s work is characterized by its special lyrical and romantic style which is a unique combination of amorous longing typical of Bosnian sevdalinka and charm of the Mediterranean and Italian canzone.
His lyrics are poetic and confessional and tell of his life experiences and love. These are transformed into melodious songs characterized by a clear and simple style. Though the main motive, love, is present in all of Monteno''s songs, he never repeats himself, but skillfully finds thousand different ways to deliver emotions in a variety of unique songs.
Harmonious melodies do not surrender to the gloominess that often appears in the Balkan tradition but flirt with the vivid Mediterranean and, even more often, the melancholic style of Italian canzone, especially the repertoire of San Remo Music Festival and that way Kemal Monteno creates his one-of-a-kind musical expression.
Born to a family of musicians Matija Dedic spent his childhood listening to the sounds of pop music and more traditional musical styles, so he started enjoying a variety of musical genres at an early age.
It did not take long for him to discover jazz and fall in love with its abstract and personal nature. Having returned from Graz where he studied at the Jazz Academy, in 1997 he started performing more often and his work became popular in Croatia and abroad.
During that time he performed with his band called the Boilers Quartet and gave live performances with musicians like B. Golson, K. Burell and the All Stars Band. Over the years he has been touring across Italy, Germany, Slovakia, England, Brazil, Belgium, Turkey, Spain, Austria, France, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary with great names like A. Queen, M. Drew, R. Ringwood, B. Petrovic, M. Murphy Band, Patrizia Conte and David Gazarov.
Late in 2004 he signed with Dallas Records to release an album called "Tempera". The album is a brilliant compilation of jazz interpretations of songs authored by the most popular Croatian singer Gibonni. The album is yet another demonstration of all of his talents confirming him as the leading and busiest Croatian jazz pianists. In 2005 he recorded his latest album called "Drugi pogled" featuring his father''s most famous hits.
